{Carriage Return} is a postal exchange of typewriter drawings between Hilary Judd and myself We have been corresponding, solely by typewritten means, since 2018 between Manchester and the remote Northumbrian countryside.
The project celebrates the limitations of the typewriters mechanisms; a love of the noisy click/clack, the miss hits and mistakes. We invite you to come and make a drawing, write a sonnet or add to our SFTOC (slowly) rolling news feed throughout the Sounds from the other city festival on May 1st, at GK Gallery, Chapel Street, Salford.
An exhibition of our typewriter drawings, prints and artist’s books are on display on the mezzanine floor at GK Gallery and tea shop until Sunday 12th June. We have left a baby blue IMPERIAL 200 typewriter in the gallery to encourage anyone visiting the space to leave us a message, a secret or typewriter drawing.
