ARTEFACT at Design Centre Chelsea Harbour, London, 9th -13th May 2023

Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour is the world’s premier destination for design and decoration and in May 2023, during London Craft Week, it will proudly be the home of Artefact, the contemporary craft fair for the modern collector.

Now in its third year, Artefact will bring the joy of the hand-crafted and highly collectible to an international audience of designers, architects, collectors and craft-curious enthusiasts. Celebrating and championing the highest levels of creativity, it will be an opportunity to meet leading gallerists from the vibrant craft arena and view outstanding work from established and emerging makers and artists.

With interior design placing ever greater value on craft, Artefact is a must-visit for international design professionals sourcing unique objects for prestigious residential and commercial projects, as well as curators and collectors seeking highly individual pieces for museums, public institutions and private collections.

See work by six QEST scholars at Artefact. QEST (the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust) is the charity that supports the training and education of talented and aspiring craftspeople through scholarship and apprenticeship funding, sustaining vital skills in traditional and contemporary crafts and supporting Britain’s cultural heritage.

Lucy May Schofield, 2021 QEST Scholar, Paper Artistry & Printmaking, Northumberland

Through hand-papermaking and printmaking using traditional water-based woodblock techniques, Lucy May Schofield seeks a dialogue with the temporal and transient nature of our existence.

Supported by QEST, Lucy has learnt skills related to foraging and creating natural pigments, inks and dyes in the UK, and in Japan will learn to create hyōsō works (hanging scrolls) and expand her skills in washi making. She seeks to create a sustainable practice which is in harmony with nature.

For Artefact, she is creating a large-scale paper piece incorporating her new natural dyeing skills, and a configuration of prints reflecting the pigments of the seven inner planets of the cosmos.
