Moon Box
Moon Box
Each year I create a moon chart and this year's offering is the most simplified form yet, a Moon Box. A new moon, half moon and full moon are woodblock printed with mica and shiro sumi ink on heavy weight black kozo washi handmade in Echizen, Japan. Mounted on a woodblock print from a block I carved back in 2015 and housed in a beautiful handmade kiribako paulownia wooden presentation box. It is said that traditionally these boxes are 'where we place our most precious things, entrust our dreams, and put that which we wish to treasure'. Often used as containers for musical instruments, or for tea ceremony, I feel the importance of the phases of the moon are to be equally treasured as our most vital companion.
Limited Edition of 14, three mokuhanga prints 55 × 91mm, mounted within paulownia wooden box, dimensions 232 x 142 x 57mm.
